Advanced Veterinary Care is Central Florida’s newest, privately owned urgent care and specialty hospital opening early 2023. Job Description - Veterinarian Urgent Care

Job Purpose – 

• The purpose of this position is to maintain animal health by diagnosing and treating diseases and injuries

• The Associate Veterinarian works under the direct guidance and supervision of the medical director and is to make every effort to help improve the quality of care given to the patients of the hospital


Duties and Responsibilities –

• Maintain knowledge of the information and techniques needed to diagnose and treat injuries, diseases, and deformities. This includes symptoms, treatment alternatives, drug properties and interactions, and preventive health-care measures

• Examine animals to detect and determine the nature of diseases or injuries

• Treat sick or injured animals by prescribing medication, performing laboratory procedures and diagnostic tests, performing surgery, or other therapies

• Operate diagnostic equipment, such as radiographic and ultrasound equipment, and interpret the resulting images

• Administer anesthetics, perform surgery, and monitor patients during surgery and recovery with the assistance of the technical team

• Answer client questions and provide education on various aspects of animal care and treatment. Call back and follow-up with clients to provide ongoing care and management 

• Deal with clients and employees in a manner that shows sensitivity, tact and professionalism

• Show good judgment in patient assessment, diagnostic, and therapeutic planning. Identify and communicate this knowledge to others when appropriate

• Humanely euthanize animals when it has been mutually agreed upon by the patient’s owner

• Maintain thorough and complete medical records

• Provide guidance, supervision and leadership to the healthcare team that will positively influence the level of care and service provided to the clients and patients 

• Take part in continuing education opportunities including both attending and giving lectures to technicians and doctors both within the hospital and to the wider community

• Attend doctor’s meetings and other pertinent in-house training

• Commitment to practicing the highest standard of medicine, upholding the veterinary code of ethics, and to the mission of the hospital

• Provide any support to administration as needed for the benefit of the hospital

• Responsible for upholding the spirit of the hospital by handling all necessary tasks that require attention
